TYPES OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE
Sexual harassments can occur in a variety of circumstances and situations.
But most often the harasser is in a position of power or authority over
the victim. This can be due to differences in age, or social, political, edu-
cational, or employment relationships. Some harassers may expect to gain
power or authority in the form of a promotion.
Many types of harassment have been described by various writers.
A number of relationships and circumstances were described by Heyman
(1994) , which include the following.
￿ The harasser can be anyone, such as a client, a co-worker, a parent or
legal guardian, relative, a teacher or professor, a student, a friend, or a
stranger.
￿ The victim does not have to be the person directly harassed but can be a
witness of such behavior who finds the behavior offensive and is affected
by it.
￿ The place of harassment occurrence may be school, university, work-
place, or other locations.
